883 Squadron Sponsoring Committee

2016-2017 Squadron Sponsoring Committee Executives
Chair: Celina Ma
Secretary: Rita Leung
Treasurer: Stephen Chait

The Squadron Sponsoring Committee (SSC) works in partnership with squadron staff to ensure the viability of the unit. Their support is intended to compliment the resources available from the Canadian Forces. The responsibility for the sponsoring committee falls to the Air Cadet League as their Supervisory Sponsor. The Squadron is supported through various forms of voluntary personal involvement, financial contributions, the provision of extra activities for the cadets, and other material assistance.

The Sponsoring Committee is often described as the “backbone of the Air Cadet Movement”, because one of the real secrets to the success of an Air Cadet Squadron is a well organized and effective Sponsoring Committee.

The SSC Chair has regular interactions with the Commanding Officer of the squadron, and both partners work collaboratively to provide the broad range of programs and experiences to the squadron cadets. Whether it is cadet trips, community involvement, Remembrance Day ceremonies, band competitions or Santa Clause parades…there’s a long list of exciting and important activities that require dedicated and committed volunteers who are interested in shaping the lives of our youth and future leaders!

The Sponsoring Committee of the Squadron shall be responsible for (but not limited to):
  • Inviting suitable persons to be membweeeers of the Sponsoring Committee
  • Liaison with other cadet unit Sponsoring Committees
  • Providing appropriate accommodation for the squadron’s training, administration and stores when it is not provided by the CF
  • Providing training aids and equipment, including band instruments, not supplied by the CF
  • Providing transportation, when not available from the CF, for local training exercises
  • Providing for the financial and administrative needs of the squadron
  • Supporting Provincial Committee activities
Fees: $120.00 (Where Does It Go?)

The lottery tickets that each cadet is expected to sell annually help finance the squadron as well as the flying scholarship program within the Air Cadet Program. The Ontario Provincial Committee Lottery is a mandatory fundraising event that each cadet and cadet unit is requires to participate in. These tickets will be distributed in September and parents will be asked to get involved to help their cadet by paying the $60.00 up front. Funds can be recovered by the parent once the cadet has sold his/her book of tickets.

The last portion of the squadron fee, will go to the squadron itself. This helps pay for any equipment we may need, trips, food, and the list goes on. This is an important fee because it goes directly back to the cadets.

If there are any questions regarding the fees, please talk to the Sponsoring Chair, or the Commanding Officer.
